Generally speaking- most insurance companies cover 2 ultrasounds (at least most in the US) some only cover one & some cover 3. But most companies seem to cover just 2.

Now if u r high risk or become high risk then it is totally different. A high risk pregnancy can have a dozen or more ultrasounds. I am high risk & for this pregnancy I will likely have 10 ultrasounds the entire time. I would rather be low risk & only have two. But if I have to be high risk then at least seeing my baby frequently is a plus (the only plus).

Since ur SIL has had 2 miscarriages & lost one after birth, depending on her situation she might now be considered high risk. I really depends on if they can figure out why she had the miscarriages. Many doctors consider u high risk after 3 miscarriages but it just depends on each different person etc.

It totally depends on your insurance. I am only 13 weeks and I have had 2. An early one to confirm the pregnancy and the new First Tri Screen sonogram that tests for DOwns Syndrome and Trisomy 13 and 18. That new test is 91% accurate and no need for amnio!!!

I am scheduled for another at 18 weeks.

That depends on the insurance, but mine was the same way. 2 is usually all the doctors require (one at about 8 wks and another at about 18 or so) and unfortunately, that is what alot of insurance companies will pay for. Any others I needed I had to pay for. Sorry!

I believe that depends on your insurance because I had more than 2 and did not have to pay for any of them. It may also have to do with her medical condition. If the ultrasounds are medically needed then they would cover them.If they were not then they more than likely would not want to cover them.

IT DEPENDS ON THE TYPE OF INSURANCE SHE HAS. I PERSONALLY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THAT BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN IT DOESN'T HAPPEN. I HAVE HAD A TOTAL OF 4 OR 5 ULTRASOUNDS JUST IN 2008 ALONE.

Unless there are other things going on with the pregnancy which require the ultrasound to be used as a diagnostic tool. You can not just request extra ones ''just because''.

And to add, an extra ultrasound or two would not have prevented a miscarriage due to infection, nor would it have been able to diagnose an infection, only blood work could have done that.
