ultrasounds......?!?!?!?!?

We had 4 this time because a possible problem showed up with our 20 week ultrasound so they wanted to do another on a level 2 machine with a genetic counselor. Prior to the 20 week ultrasound, we had two-one at my first appointment and then another a couple of weeks later.

That is normal, most people only have one or two depending on when they start going to the doctor. I am getting one every two weeks but I am also a high risk pregnancy, and they have to measure my cervix every two weeks.

I am 8 weeks pregnant and so far have had 4 ultrasounds. I think the reason I have had so many is because my pregnancy is high risk because of my high blood pressure and the medications they are treating it with. Good luck sounds like your pregnancy is going great! :)

I am using a midwife, not a doctor, & I am not getting an ultrasound at all. It was optional, but also medically unnecessary. Unless, that is, u would abort ur child if something was wrong. But the midwife can identify problems like placenta previa, the baby not growing, & even tell the position of the baby. For one, the fetal scope she has accurately pinpoints the placenta so she knows if it is near the cervix. She can tell the growth of the child by the fundal height, & she knows exactly what the head, back & feet feel like, & is also aided by the location of the heart beat (she can tell the difference between the pulsing of the placenta & the baby is heart). Midwives r awesome. I used a doctor on my first, & I can say that my midwife knows more about pregnancy & deliveries than any OBGYN. Anyhow, it was an option for me to pay extra for an ultrasound, but there really was no need, unless I just wanted to know the sex. I hope this helps.

I have had 3 so far with one more scheduled. The first was to date the pregnancy it was around 5 weeks, then the following we had a second because the first one did not show the embryo, with the second we saw him & his little heartbeat. The third was one day short of 20 weeks (anatomy scan) they found that both of his feet r clubbed. So we r having a fourth at 28 weeks so the orthopedic surgeon can get a better look at those feet. Our baby boy is going to be fine & its fun to get to see him, but be happy that ur little one is not having any problems. Good Luck!

I had a few but it was because my baby would not be still to get a complete scan, if you want to see your baby and can afford it you can get a 3d ultra sound I did and it was great, but I had to save for it cause it was like 248.00 Congrats on your baby

Why do you think you need another one?

If you have any symptoms, you should have told the doctor what these were rather than simply asking for a scan.
The doctor needs to know why.

Un-needed scans some people say disturb the baby.
Do the research, if you actually care about your baby.

I had a u/s done at 6 weeks, and then again at 20 weeks with my last baby. and that was it.

With my twins, I had lots and lots of em, lol.

Sometimes, if you require non-stress tests they do u/s with them. Not sure how you can just get one.. maybe if you asked the dr they may allow it.

If you live near a place that does elective 3D ultrasounds, they are really neat. They are kind of pricy though. But the reason your doctor is not giving you another one since everything is OK is because insurance would likely not pay for it.

it depends on your doctor my first 3 pregnancies i had only 1 my 4th i had 2 and this one i had 4 so it all depends and if your doing great then there is no need to

thats probably it. You can go to a 4d place or like a clinic that does ultrasounds on request for fun. Youll have to pay though. The place I looked at charges 80-125
