With finding out the due date and the sex of the baby?

Based on the date of my last period, my OB said that l would be due Sept 10th, but then when l went for my ultrasound, the technician said that it would be Sept 2. l feel that it may be even sooner than that, because l have dropped already and its still July. So, how accurate are ultrasounds? Could they have been wrong about the due date? And if so, then is it possible that they could have been wrong about the sex of the baby too?

I was told by my doctor that the first ultrasound you have is the most accurate on the due date. If you dont have an experinsed tech doing the altrasound they can be wrong about the sex of the baby.trust me I know.

Usually the OB gives ur due date based on ur last period. The ultrasonographer gives u ur date based on the measurements of the baby. So they both should be pretty accurate. 8 days difference is not that much.
As far as the sex of the baby that is usually pretty clear. If they told u it was a girl make sure they saw ovaries or the labia. If u were told it was a male then obviously u want to see the testes. But there r many cases where the gender at birth is different than what was told from the ultrasound.
Hope that helps a little.
Congrats on ur pregnancy & I hope the rest of it goes well for you!

It is always possible that they are wrong. Your lmp date is most accurate however every baby cooks at a different rate. My baby dropped at 34wks and was born at 38wks. He looked like he was actually past due, I knew my conception date though.

It is very possible that you're just having a small baby. That too can cause them to get ur dates wrong. Are u sure of when ur last period started? Did u have an ultrasound early on? Dating ur pregnancy based on LMP & an early ultrasound (in the first trimester) r usually pretty accurate. But if neither of those work for you, maybe ur baby is just smaller than normal.

And they could always be wrong about the gender. Ultrasound technicians r not 100% accurate all the time.

Due date---LMP calculations r a huge guesstimate & I think it is much more common for those to be adjusted after an ultrasound than not. I do not think I know anyone who is due date ended being their LMP date. The early ultrasounds r super accurate for baby dating because while every pregnancy is different, the early stages r pretty universal.

Baby is Sex--It depends on how clear a look they got. We asked our tech how sure they were & they said 98%. No one will ever say 100 because it does occasionally end up that the umbilical cord looked like a penis or that the way the penis was tucked back made them think girl, but the technology is pretty advanced at this point.

Most ultrasounds r very accurate. There is always room for error but it is the most dependable source of due date. They calculate the due date based on how the measurements of the baby r playing out so it is probably going to be around september 2nd. As far as the gender goes. Most of the time they r only wrong if it is a girl & not a boy. Boys r very obvious very early on. on the rare occasion the cord or something will be stuck somewhere on the girl & make it look like a boy but these r all rare cases. Good luck

They are not 100%. Plus it depends on the experience of the technician but even then they can not be right all the time. Mine was right about the sex and the due date but they were WAY off on her size. They told me she was going to weigh 12 pounds!! Luckily she was only 9!!!

Keep in mind due dates are set by BABIES, not by doctors. Usually, a doctor will give you a due date based on the date of your last period, but that date is plus or minus 5 days.

Ultrasounds are pretty good, but they can be read wrong. I know personally of 2 instances where they said it would be one sex and it ended up to be the other. Who cares anyway.as long the baby is healthy, that is all that matters.
