How accurate are the ultrasounds done late in pregnancy

Yes it can be a very close estimate. I gained 60 lbs with my daughter and she weighed 6lbs 14ozs. My son they said would be around a 8 lb baby and he was 8 6 and i only gained 25 lbs with him. The low amount of fluid is due to how big the baby is and that you dont have much time left.

i'm sure its accurate. i get ultrasounds every two weeks because i am having my second set of twins. my doctor likes to keep close watch on their growth because on twin typically grows larger then the other. So far they both weight 3 pounds 3 ounces and i have gained..23 pounds thus far in this pregnancy.so you sounds right on track for a single pregnancy.

I had a U/S at 37 weeks and the tech told me that my baby weighed 6 lbs. and 15 oz. I had my son 1 week later and he weighed 6 lbs 11 oz and they did not see that i had placenta previa and because of that my baby was very sick at birth.So no i do not think they are very accurate at 37 weeks the baby just takes up too much room for them to really see anything or make a good estimate on fetal weight. The estimate can be off up to 2 lbs give or take.

i would say pretty accurate the last one i had done was around 35 weeks and it measured my son as being 9lbs 1oz 2 days later he was born by induced labor and he weighed 8lbs 13 oz i also gained 26lbs total

Ultrasounds are notoriously wrong. My sis works as a dula. So many times her clients are advised to be induced because the baby measures big on the ultrasound. She says more often than not they are wrong and the baby is normal sized. I would take whatever they have to say with a grain of salt.

my aunt was told that she was going to have a 13 pound baby and she had a 9 pound baby.. i dont think that they are that accurate

Not very accurate. Your baby is too big in the latter part of your pregnancy to get an accurate ultrasound. I was told, at 36 weeks, that my baby was weighing over 7 pounds and to expect a 9-10 pound baby. He was born at only 7 pounds, 3 ounces.

I would not put much stock in ultrasounds, especially when they are done later.
