Yes, this is how I found out I had one with my daughter. I am now 25 weeks pregnant and have had many ultrasounds to check my cervical length, so far so good!

Yes but the problem can be fixed if caught in time. My coworker has a very incompetent cervix she have to have her cervix stitched in order to carry full term. I do not think the recovery is bad because she was able to return to work shortly after her surgery. Good luck

I think they usually take the measurement of the cervix as one of the things at a standard ultrasound. I have an incompetent cervix (had to have 2 cerclages) and also was monitored using an ultrasound later in pregnancy to see if my cervix was shortening further (it can dilate all the way to the cerclage).

They can see if you have a short cervix which is associate with incompitant cervix, If you cervix is short then you are at risk of permature labour. As far as knowing if you cervix will thin out or dialate in the 6th month they wo not be able to tell that.
